Printmaking Workshops with Susan Deakin
South Devon based artist Susan Deakin will be making a series of prints which will enhance the waiting area of the new Primary Care Centre which is being built at the Devonport Health campus. In order to discuss her ideas for her new art works she ran a series of print workshops with Devonport residents in the summer of 2009, the first was in Frank Cowl House a residential home for the elderly and the second was at Pembroke Street Youth Project.
The elderly residents from Frank Cowl House really enjoyed their sessions and this was reflected in the feedback Susan recieved from Assisistant Manager Caron Paton;
I wish to thank you from all of the clients (residents) that participated in your workshops. The residents are very proud of their work and have been keen to show their family and friends.
The young people, of all ages, also really enjoyed their day printing with Sue said Pembroke Street Project Leader Mandi Leaves;
We have some budding artists within the group and these young people are very keen to try more. Putting the tree on the wall has sparked off their next wall art which is evolving around nature and the coast. Half the room will eventually be covered in greenary and wildlife and the other side, full of water, the coast and its habitat. It has been very educational and fun for all the youth club users.
Candice, one of the young people who attended the workshop added,
I liked doing the printing, I drew a bird and painted it 2 different colours. Now it is on the youth club wall so everyone can see it. I would like to do it again and try drawing something else.

Film and Video Workshop with Pembroke Street Youth Project - facilitated by Blind Ditch and PMZ, Commissioned by Zest, Funded by DRC Partnership
In February half term 2009, Zest commissioned Plymouth Music Zone and film makers Blind Ditch to make a DVD with some of the children and young people from Pembroke Street Youth Project in Mount Wise, Devonport. There was an overwhelming demand for the workshops and they became oversubscribed but so as not to disappoint anyone, the workshop leaders made provisions so that everyone could join in.
The film, called Relay, follows the path of an iPod as it travels though the streets of Devonport. Below are some photographs taken at the time of filming. The final edited film was screened on Wednesday 22nd April, it was first time that the young peopel of Devonport had seen their production and it was deemed a resounding success.
Zest would like to thank everyone who was involved in the production.
To view the film Relay please click here. Due to the film being shot in High Definition, it may take a short while to down load.

Devonport fun day 2008
The fun event held on Saturday 9 August was very successful, artist Lesley Kerman spoke with members of the public to gather their secrets for her part of the creative programme called 'Secrets of Devonport'. These memories will be used to inspire the collections of artefacts which will be contained within resin blocks providing a visual history and telling a story personal to Devonport and it's residents. Emma Spring ran an instant mosaic workshop enjoyed by parents and children who were able to take their creations home with them. We would like to thank all involved including the City Museum who provided a range of animal skull casts complete with teeth as an innovative way to promote the Dental School.

September Workshops 2008
During early September we held a series of workshops in Devonport and encouraged local residents to work with the artists. Emma Spring created a large map of the area using stencils that had been created by those who attended the workshops. Lesley Kerman continued her research of Devonport and talked to several residents of the area as she collected more anecdotes for her art work 'Secrets of Devonport'. Not only did Lesley collect memories, she has also had several items donated to her that will actually appear in the finished piece in the Cumberland Centre.
This programme is funded by DRC Partnership http://www.drcpartnership.co.uk
