The Peninsula Radiology Academy (PRA) is one of three pilot sites being developed in the UK by the Department of Health (the other two locations are in Leeds and Norwich). The Peninsula Academy in Plymouth is the only Academy on a purpose built site.
Zest on behalf of PRA and with the support of ROK the site developers early in 2006 advertised the commission for an artist in residence to produce artworks to celebrate the opening of the Academy.
Tahera Aziz a London based artist has been awarded the commission. Tahera has a background in both medicine and fine art, coincidentally Tahera in her medical days worked in Derriford Hospital. Previous work by Tahera has explored the use of technology in charting the relationship between identity and memory, using analogue and digital imaging equipment to scan and manipulate images to present familiar objects in new and challenging ways.
During the spring and summer of 2006 Tahera has spent time at the Academy becoming familiar with the space and context working with staff and students exploring different creative ideas.
Tahera worked on the project during the autumn spring of 2006/7compling the project in the late summer and the installation was successfully installed in the Autumn of 2007.
