Previously occupying separate wards within the hospital the women's gynaecology breastcare are now both housed on Mokswell Ward, Primrose ward will keep its Primrose identity.
Working to a very tight schedule Zest led the interior design and consultation process to provide all healthcare users with a bright modern interior. Staff and other ward users were offered a range of colours and finishes for walls and floors as well as a selection of images for wall and ceiling panels. For the ceiling panels and ligthboxes there of both modern abstract and landscape images were offered, with the landscape images being the most overwhelmingly popular choice. This choice of landscape reinforces the findings of the American healthcare expert Roger Ullrich, that views, of either a real or virtual landscape have a positive impact on patients and in many cases this can reduce the length of patient stay, and in some instances reduce the levels of medication needed by patients.
The ceiling in the wards above each bed space has a panel showing a local landscape, the photographs were taken by Dawlish based photographer Ian James wood. These panels give patients relaxing and engaging images to look at and provide a common interest and point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff.
