To ensure that the high standards of design and finish that the Trust aspires to are an integral part of all design projects, a set of Toolkits is being developed. The Toolkits cover all the elements of interior design that are needed to create a high standard healthcare environment.
Areas covered by the Toolkit include:
- Equal Access for all hospital users, DDA and other standards
- Wall and floor coverings
- Colour schemes for public areas, wards and offices
- Wayfinding - the use of signs, images and landmarks to help people find their way around a complicated building
- Ward refurbishments
- Door and wall protection
- Fabrics and blinds
The standards laid down in the Toolkits are central to the Trust strategy of creating a warm welcoming healthcare environment for patients and visitors and a good working environment for staff.
The Toolkits are being produced in consultation with all those concerned with either maintaining the fabric of the building or the project teams designing new buildings. The use of the Toolkit will ensure consistently high design standards accross the Trust, and a high standard of interior design for all hospital users.
